Doggy Diaries – Year ago recap 8 – Bones, spoons and humidity

Ah, the first Saturday of training. The twentieth last year was my first day to sort of relax lol! There are two posts from that day, the first one giving the crazy training schedule and discussing why I think I slept a little better. I remember that Friday night, the girl who stayed the night helping me in the reliving circle. I don’t remember what the title is, but there are guide dog handlers who often stay the nights at GDB and she was a total lifesaver since she understood how disorienting a new place is, when mixed with new experiences and a dog. I’m forever grateful to her and so glad I keep in touch with her. She was kind and patient and showed me how to line my heels against a curb and only move forward and back so as not to lose my bearings. No matter how long a sight is under blind ford, they’ll never quite understand, so I was so grateful to have people there who did.

The second post is about the good day I had that Saturday, about stopping an instructor to ask if there was anything I could do differently and getting a good answer. We also got booties that day and I mention in the post that Jay would need to wear them here in the summer. He didn’t have to wear them much this last summer, because as Dave explained, you can touch a hot surface briefly and be fine, you just can'[t hold your hand there. So I always have them with me in case we’ll be immobile for long periods on hot surfaces, but really that will only happen in an emergency since I can’t handle heat anyway.

We also got toys that day and I wrote about all the dogs chewing their Nylabones. It’s funny because I left that same bone at Gamma’s last Sunday accidentally and gave it back to Jay today when we went there. So he got his bone a year to the day of getting after not having it for a week haha!

I’m glad I did the first link of this post this morning, because after showering to go to Gamma’s, I started feeling tired and it’s only gotten worse. I ache all over and can’t get comfortable. On the couch with my wireless keyboard to finish this. I’m not even gonna edit. Iy’s raining and high humidity so that’s gotta be it, but haven’t felt this awful in a long time. This is pretty much how I felt the whole time at GDB lol. K, sorry for typos.

  1. Hope you feel better soon.

Yeah what do they call them? Resident assistants or attendants or something? I’m glad she could help you out. That circle is a bitch.

  2. Funny thing is that there are hardly any typos; much better than me. LOL
Hope you are feeling better soon
