I listened to all the other Joe Ledger novels last year and fell in love with both Ledger and the narrator Ray Porter. I was counting down until the sixth book came out this year and preordered it on Audible as soon as I could.
The book did not disappoint in fact we get to revisit a lot of the horrors from the earlier novels. I purposely had not read the publisher’s summary so I didn’t know what to expect going in to the book. A brilliant mad scientist has somehow gotten hold of several bio weapons Ledger and Echo team took care of in the past and is now unleashing them on America. An odd cult has formed up around these events thanks to use of the internet and the wave of terror appears unstoppable.
I was often reminded of the show The Following that B and I watch and wondered if Maberry based part of this book on that show or if perhaps the show inspired the novel.
I started the book before my trip to Florida and finished it on the plane. I’m pretty sure this is the first Joe Ledger book to make me cry and I would have much preferred to do it in my bed comfortably at home but whatevs as the kids say.
The only disappointing thing about this book was that nothing surprised me. It was pretty easy to figure out who was who and what was going on. Luckily the book was so good it didn’t matter. I wonder how long we’ll have to wait for the next one! At least Jonathan Maberry isn’t George R. R. Martin. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy insane plots to destroy human life as well as kickass action sequences. Oh, we get to know Joe Ledger a little better in this book too which was rather nice.
Rating: So good!
Oh and Ray Porter did another fantastic job. Such a talent!
