Doggy Countdown – Last countdown post!

Oh man am I tired. I don’t even know what I’m gonna write. All that’s left to do now is eat, sleep and wait. Everything is packed. Everything is ready. Did a load of laundry today and filled the suitcase to brimming. It’s not extended, so maybe when it’s extended there will be room so I don’t have to leave with the second bag. We shall see.

This morning I took a bath and the water wasn’t quite hot. It was warm, but not hot. And then the water pressure was off for my shower. Yes, I take a bath and then shower. I’ve just finished sitting in my own filth haha! So got that out of the way so I could pack my face wash and stuff. Finished the last lecture cd this morning. Talk about last minute, right? Then when B got up I was getting laundry ready and he ran to the store so I called Gamma. I cried when I hung up with her. I’m gonna miss our morning talks! So I called Georgie to get centered again so I wasn’t going to the laundry in tears hehe. I was planning on calling her today anyway.

Went and got the laundry done and I had sent Carin an email because she wanted to call today so I told her I was finishing up laundry and then running to Walgreens so I’d be ready in an hour or two. So I finish the laundry and get it packed and then B and I went to Walgreens. We got home and walked in the door and the phone rang and B said the name on the caller ID and I said, it’s my Canadian! It was Carin! That was cool. We talked for like an hour. I’m really not a big phone person but sometimes it’s cool, like today. So we talked and then hung up and I called L and we talked and hung up and then Chupa was online and she called. So, I think I’m done with phone calls. Believe it or not, talking is quite the spoon zapper haha! But it’s good because now I’m nice and worn out and can just zone until it’s time for bed.

Everything should be fine with the internet, but in the event that it’s not, Carin will do a blog post for me here and let you all know. If I can’t access the internet, I’ll still journal and then post it all when I get home. So hopefully you will all find out who Insert is on Wednesday, unless there’s no internet, then you’ll have to wait until I get home. 😉

Oh yeah! I suppose I should link to the puppy pool results, so hopefully we’ll know who won on Wednesday. Heck, I won’t even know if there’s no internet. Oh wait, yes I will, I have the results saved in a text document, duh.

I’m changing the blog header tonight to reflect the trip. Lish gets credit for the idea. I went and typed it up and we refined it. I think it’s fitting.

So from now on the subjects will start with “Doggy School”. I think it’s fun to continue the “doggy” theme. 🙂

I’m so excited! I think I used all my energy on excitement and phone calls. I could sleep right now. *Yawn*.

Spinelli just jumped up on my lap and now she’s curled up bathing herself. I’m not looking forward to saying goodby in the morning. Ick.

Oh yeah, this smorning I was getting a glass out of the drainboard and touched Insert’s dog bowls and it made me smile. Dog bowls all ready, and Vittles Vault washed. All prepared!

Tomorrow I’ll get up and check emails and then Alex is getting packed up. So….I might reply to comments in the morning but if not, I’ll hopefully see ya’ll on the GDB network!!!

1 day!!! Countdown complete. Countdown Complete. Countdown Complete.

Doggy Countdown – Packing! and happy!

I am just so happy today haha! Do you ever get in a really good mood, like so good you talk really gooffy to the cats or sing random songs, or even just skip in your own home? Haha! Yeah, that’s the kind of mood I’m in. I love those moods, as while I’m typically in a decent mood, it’s been awhile since I’ve just been giddy happy.

I’m packing today! I’ve been putting stuff on the table as I think of it so that I had all my stuff in one place. I had my tank tops in zip lock bags, but they didn’t really work being packed like that. I had all my toiletries and stuff in a travel bag and stuff was just kinda collecting. So I finally decided to test out Carol’s suitcase today.

I put my street pack in first because it’s pretty flat, then the rolled up duffel bag Georgie lent me in case I need an extra bag coming home. With just those 2 things I started thinking, there’s no way it’s all gonna fit. Well, my packing skills never cease to amaze me lol!

I managed to get everything in there. All my clothes, socks, graduation dresss, toiletry bag and other odds and ends like the instant coffee crammed into a travel mug and a spoon haha! I stuffed socks and rolled up tank tops in the crevices the bags made lol. Then I rolled all my other items. My Dad taught me years ago that the best way to pack is roll clothes. He learned that in boot camp. So all the necessities are packed and there’s still room for the last minute stuff like my little teddy bear. Yes, my teddy bear. I can’t sleep without Snuggles hehehe!

I also got out my backpack that I’ll be using for carry on. It’s a great backpack, with a laptop compartment with a padded sleeve. I rolled up my raincoat, a pair of jeans and a shirt, socks and undies, just in case. Mom taught me to always have a change of clothes in carry on. I love that backpack because I can cinch it up with the outer straps to keep it as small as possible.

The suitcase is one of those that extends up, so I wanted to make sure the stuff going doesn’t need that much space, so hopefully I can expand the suitcase coming back. It’s also got those straps inside to cinch everything down. Those are a pain to keep track of while you’re packing, but they work like a charm in making more room.

So whoo hoo! Got the majority of that done. Later on I’m gonna wash the Vittles Vault and the dog bowls. Then I’m done! Oh yeah, still gotta finish listening to the clicker lecture and the guest lectures. I’m having a hell of a time staying attentive to those cds. I’m a very hands on person, so stuff doesn’t make much sense and my mind wanders. Gotta finish them so I can pack. Got my plane tickets tucked away in my backpack. Yay!! Oh and I played with the little alarm clock I got from Miss A and it works like a charm. So very easy to set, so that’ll be great to take. I just gotta pop the batteries because it’s really easy to make it talk lol!

Man, I love happy days. They are just the best!!! I’m getting oh so so so excited. I wanna go now, now now now!!! Haha!!!

Happy happy joy joy!

4 days, count em, 4!!!!

Doggy Countdown – 1 week till Dog Day!

When I talked to the trainers last week, it was confirmed that Dog Day will be the Wednesday after I get there, which means one week from today! In one week, Insert will have a name!

So I’m really confused. It’s raining like freaking crazy today and I feel fine. Huh? Ok. See this is what I get for trying to understand MS. Just when I think I know how it works, it surprises me. Alrighty then.

I went and worked out today mostly so I could see my friends at Saavi before I leave. I didn’t go on Monday since I was pulling out of the fatigue, and didn’t want it to set back in. I took it easy today too. I rode the bike for thirty minutes, and then decreased the number of sets in the weight room. Not taking any chances.

I took the iPod in, and on the way there in the van, I started playing with the radio feature. The only thing I don’t like about it is that you have to use the ear buds, as they are the antenna. But, it worked. I had to select my region, which was just “the Americas” lol! Once I did that, the iPod picked up my local stations. I was able to scroll through until I found the country station, yay! Then, you can actually pause the live radio and then rewind or fast forward. Awesome.

I took some video in the gym, mostly for audio. One of the videos was when I was on the bike just talking to Lisa. I purposely had my finger in front of the lense, and one of the sighties said you can see my leg pedaling lol! I have to listen to the video before deciding whether to post it. I took a few others that I won’t be posting because it shows people’s faces. I had to get Glenn being silly, and he was all embarassed hehe!

So it was fun today. I also ran into a friend I haven’t talked to in awhile, so it was nice to chat with him. Fun day!

I had worn my raincoat because we were supposed to get rain today and it didn’t rain until I got home. Lucky! I was talking to Kevin on the phone right after I got home when the rain started. Thanks for waiting, rain!

Kevin is stuck in Virginia, literally stuck in the hotel room. They had gotten a job that was supposed to be a week long in Virginia, then another like month long job in South Carolina. I remember thinking the foreman of the job was stupid for having Kevin drive out there with this weather forcast. Turns out he hasn’t even been able to finish the week long job, and the job in South Carolina got cancelled. And now he’s stuck in a hotel, paying for it, with no money coming in. I feel horrible for him. The only good thing is that he’ll be home a lot earlier than planned, but this means no work. I think he should just scrap the business and work at the golf course. Doesn’t that sound like a good plan? He’s excited though, that he’ll be home when I get back with Insert.

I’m excited too, because Lish and I came up with a new blog header for while I’m at school. So I’ve got that saved and ready to change Sunday night hehe!

All that’s left to do is pack and wash the food container. That’s it! I’m so glad I did some laundry yesterday since it’s all rainy. One more O& M lesson on Friday! Wow!! Can you believe this??? Most of the time I can’t. I think I’ll believe it when I’m in the air. 😉

I’m all rambly and all over the place in this post hahaha! I’m sooo excited!

5 days!!! 5!!!! 5 days!!!!

Oh man I can’t believe I almost forgot this until I was putting my labels on. We weighed me in today and I’ve lost a total of 8 pounds. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but I’ve gained a lot of muscle, so that had to level out so that the fat burning would show on the scale. I tweaked my food a little for the last two weeks and just eat more times a day with less in the portions, and I try to eat as helthy of stuff as I can. Just in the last 2 weeks I lost 3 pounds! And I hardly worked out with that fatigue. So I think the change in the eating has really made a huge difference!

Doggy Countdown – Laundry Lessons

I love how I don’t even have Insert yet and I’m already more independent hehehe! I decided to do a load of laundry today, because I didn’t get around to it Sunday like I had planned. I’m getting closer to starting to actually pack, so getting something done daily is helping.

Anyway, I went down, loaded the washer, checked the time when I started it so I’d know when to go back, and headed back to the apartment, pulling my cart. A woman stopped me and introduced herself and asked if I needed help. Nope, I’m good, thanks. I’m getting a guide dog, so I’m almost done with this thing. I waved my cane when I said that. She said she had never seen one in action and I told her she’s about to lol.

When it was time to go back, I went, transferred my clothes to the dryer, feeling around in the machine and on the floor around it in case I dropped something. It’s one of those front load washers. I put my clothes in the dryer, checked the time again, and headed for home.

I checked stuff online, then it was time to go back.

I pulled my cart behind me and entered the laundry room. The dryers are on the wall to the right as you walk in, so I was walking towards my dryer. Someone had been drying clothes earlier, but the room was quiet aside from my dryer. I walked towards it when I got the unpleasant surprise of running into the upper dryer door that someone had left open. Doh! I got mad at the person, but then remembered Dave telling me to put my hand at the level of my eyes when there are possible head height obstructions. So I waited for my clothes to finish, thinking about how I should hold my cane next time and then thought I should just trail the counters instead of the dryers next time lol!

Took my clothes home, hung everything up, folded my socks and I didn’t lose a one!

But then I was folding underwear and I was short two pair. Damn.

Back to the laundry room. I went to the washer but it was already in use. I felt around on the floor again, then on the counters. Then the dryer. Aaround the floor. No underwear.

I was leaving when I thought to check the top of the washer. Score! There were my wet underwear in a lump on the washer hahahaha! I crammed them in my pocket and went back home hahahah!!!!

So those were two very valuable lessons hehe!!

I just got done eating and just before that, B and I went through the packets finally so I could check to make sure my plane tickets match my ID and they do. I went through and signed all the releases. I had read the email again this morning, and I could have sent them in, or brought them to school, so that’s good, since I kept forgetting to do it. Out of sight out of mind. 😉

So now I can start packing slowly. I’ll do some more laundry this weekend and I’m good to go!!

6 days!!!!!

Doggy Countdown – Rain, rain and more rain

The title pretty much says it all. Lots of rain. Lots. We went to Gamma’s yesterday for my Uncle’s birthday, and I really thought I was gonna be feeling pretty good. I was feeling great in the morning and into the afternoon, and then I took a shower. Lately all my showers have been exausting me. I think I need to do baths this week. I wonder if the bathrooms at GDB have tubs, or just shower stalls? Prolly just stalls.

So joy. I was already getting fatigued just getting ready to go. It didn’t let up. We went to Gamma’s and I was pretty low energy. We came home and B said, oh it’s gonna rain all day tomorrow. Oh. Gotcha. That’s why. I was able to push through all that stuff on Friday because it was sunny. Then more rain is moving in, which leads to pressure change. No wonder. I woke up this morning to constant rain. I guess AZ is trying to prepare me for CA.

I e-mailed Lisa this morning because I think I’m skipping my workout again tomorrow. My shins hurt. My shins! I sure hope I didn’t get shin splints after Friday. Dave had mentioned that I was picking my feet up well, and the GDB nurse had said that people get shin splints at school because they pick their feet up more working a dog. They offer Yoga for that, I think every Tuesday. So I’ll finally get into Yoga, sweet! But, yeah I think I’ve got shin splints, or at least mild ones. It hurts when I walk. Also, I was going to do laundry today. But, it’s pouring. And my gym clothes are dirty, and I only have one set.

See in the old days, I would have ignored all these blatant signs telling me to stay home on Monday and do my preparing. I’m not gonna ignore all this now lol! I actually feel hungover. That is not a fun feeling when you’re sober awhile. I think I’m dehydrated, so I’m drinking lots of water.

So that’s my sob story lol. Yesterday I asked B if I’ve been acting depressed, because I know depression causes fatigue. I’ve experienced the depressed fatigue, and it’s different, but I wanted to make sure. I know I’m not always the best just of my own mental health. He said I’ve been fine. I told HIm I’m gonna get depressed if I don’t start feeling better hahaha!

Quite honestly though, I really think this all just means I’m supposed to take it easy this last week before I go. I’m listening to my body and my gut and I really think that’s what it means. It’s not necessarily a bad thing that I’ve been down. I think my body knows what’s coming and is now conserving. I couldn’t see that when the fatigue first hit, but I really think that’s what’s up. So I’m gonna listen and just do what I need to do this week.

By this time next Sunday I’ll be all packed and getting ready to go!!! Wow!!!

I’m hoping to upload a video later and then write about the iPod, and I really need to practice that so I can get plenty of video of Insert!

8 days!!!

Doggy Countdown – Ah, the weekend

How I love the weekend. For someone without a paying job, this is kinda funny. I think most working folk look at people who don’t work as constantly having a weekend. Not so lol. I was really thinking about this a bit ago, as I was getting caught up on 2 days worth of blogs, and really wanting some good time to write. Since as of now, I don’t work, I’ve needed to find other things that make me feel worthwhile, and this blog has become a huge part of that. Not only is it cathartic for me, I have a wonderful record of my life. And, I get to share thoughts, ideas, fears and hopes with my blogger family, and it is just oh so fulfilling. So when I have weeks like this last one, where I’m fatigued and trying to keep up with the daily grind, yes, I in fact have a daily grind lol, I feel like I’m neglecting my blog.

Though I’ve met tons of people, and while I know my readers like to read my posts, this blog is first and foremost, for me. It’s become something I can put my energy to, a goal of sorts. I’ve shared before that weekends are really my time to catch up. I pretty much have a few uninterrupted hours of computer time on weekend mornings whille B is sleeping. During the week I have a pretty set routine of chores, workouts, phone calls, etc. Friday nights, I can’t wait to sleep because it means when I wake up, I get to have quality time with my computer haha! So I just had to explain why I’m so happy it’s Saturday.

We’re going to Gamma’s this afternoon for my Uncle’s birthday. Sunday is usually family day, but luckily it’s today. Tomorrow is Super Bowl, so it would have been ww3 if I had told B we had to go to Gamma’s ahhahaha!

So I want to detail a little more about my lesson with Dave yesterday. For the last 2 Fridays, the weather here has been pretty similar to how it will be in San Rafael. Minus the actual water, it’s been cold and humid. So I’ve been testing my school attire, which is working quite well. When I’m doing anything physical in the cold, it’s hard to dress. If I dress too warmly, I get too hot even when it’s cold. Yesterday I did have to shed the raincoat while coming back home. I suddenly start feeling myself overheat, and that is bad, very bad. Dave carried the coat until we got home where I had left my water outside my door. I collapsed and chugged and we started talking about my fatigue.

I told him I was a little worried about how fatigued I’ve been, and how much the Juno walk tired me. He said he’s not worried. He said the school will be more than accomodating. He said if the trainers have any questions, they can feel free to call him. He told me just make sure, make absolutely sure, to stop when I feel fatigued, to strip off layers when I feel hot. He gave me some good things to say to the trainers. He said he’s not worried too, because once I’ve done something once, I’ve got it. And he would tell the trainers that if they asked. So even with all the fatigue, he still gave me another A++.

Which leads me to the trainer call I couldn’t really elaborate on last night. It was wonderful to talk to them. They informed me that I’ll be chillin at the airport awhile on the 15th haha! They are collecting 8 of us that day, so I’ll have to hang out until everyone gets there, since I’m one of the first to arrive. They said they’d have lunch for me. When I told Lish that yesterday, she said it’s like The Real World lol! Which prompted an idea for the blog header while I’m at school.

Then they were explaining how they’ll find me, and they told me to have my cane out. I said, what if I walk along barking? They said, then the wrong people would pick you up. Hahaha! I started telling them about the fatigue and they said don’t worry, if you have a day where you can’t work, we’re not gonna send you home without your dog. They also said the nurses will probably hover over me haha! I told them what Dave said about me learning stuff once and they sounded impressed and I said, his words, not mine. Didn’t want to sound like I have a big head. So they definitely alleviated any worry about the fatigue issue. They said, we see that your O& M went through our training? I said yes and they were very happy. I still think that Dave is one of the major reasons I was accepted so quickly. They know I have built in support when I get home.

They asked what I like in my dogs. I said I have cats. Oh! Have you ever had dogs? My mom liked pomeranians, but I like bigger dogs. They laughed. I guess I had said something to Don about how I might see the shadow of a black dog, though I don’t remember saying that. I told them yeah, but really I just want the best dog. Obviously a somewhat chill dog that will be cool if I can’t go out for a day, and obviously good house manners, but who doesn’t want that?

They said that first Tuesday it will be Juno work, and I’ll also work with some of the dogs not quite through training yet. Sweet! They want to see how I am with different kinds of dogs, so I’ll be doing some obedience and stuff with some of the dogs still in training. Then, they confirmed that Wednesday will be Dog Day!!!! Yay!!!

There was a lot of laughing on the phone, and I felt so excited through my exaustion. We were all cracking jokes on the speaker phone, so they sound like my kind of people.

So, now I feel like all the major steps have been taken. There are still some things I want to get accomplished this week, which will take some good uninterrupted time on the computer. I want to put my lecture cds on the iPod. I need to do some more practice with the videos, and I really want to get that blog post written about how to do it, in case any other blinks run across this blog and need help.

Obviously I need to pack the smaller stuff that are already ready to go in bags. I’ll try to keep up the tidying around the house. Lish will need to come back so I can show her what we need done with the cats. I’m gonna have B make sure my name is spelled just right on the tickets because it has to match my ID perfectly. Really should have done that right when I first got it. I know it’s the same because that’s how the airline found my reservation, but for peace of mind, I want to double check.

But, I’m pretty much completely ready. I’m just going to take it easy this coming week and make sure I do the things I need to do for myself, like being able to write my posts in a non-rushed manner haha!

I’m thinking tomorrow will be an excellent blog day because it’s Super Bowl, which I’ll only half pay attention to. I used to sit and eat junk food. The game was a great excuse. But I’m not doing that this year.

The countdown is really on!!! Single digits baby!!! 9 days!!!!

Doggy Countdown – Trainers and beauty and fellowship

Oh man. Too much happened today. LIke, quite literally too much after a week of fatigue lol! Oh man. There is no way I will get it all down today. Maybe I’ll go into more detail tomorrow. But for propserity’s sake, for in 5 years when I want to look back, I’ll do a brief outline.

Dave came at 9:30 for our lesson. I had showered before hand since I was getting my hair trimmed. Showers either invigorate or exaust. It pretty much exausted me and I got too warm. I told Dave I was really fatigued all week. So he said we’d take it light. More fun stuff just to get me outside, much less mental work. So he had a training handle from GDB and we did Juno down to the store and back. It was like I haven’t been working out. Coming back nearly killed me. But I made it. We talked some and I came inside for about 45 minutes before my friend came over for our day of beauty.

Who knew sitting and being pampered could wear you out. I sat with my feet in the spa tub in the pedicure chair for about 20 minutes before they got to me. Got my pedicure, then moved to the table for my maincure, then off to the bed for the brow wax. I don’t usually get manicures but thought it would be nice not to have to worry about my nails at schoo.

We got done there and wen’t to Supercuts for my hair trim. She only had to cut an inch off, so that made me happy and that was quick.

Then we went to Walgreens for toothpaste. Oh yeah, before we started we went to Sauce for lunch for my favorite salad.

So she dropped me off just after 3. Keep in mind I’ve been going since 9:30 with about a thirty minute rest before the beauty stuff.

So I get home and Lish calls because we were gonna try and have face time today. I tell her definitely lets do it but she has to come here because there’s no way I’m taking her stairs. She was gonna be here in about 45 minutes. So I called Carol back.

We talked for about 5 minutes when my home phone rang and I knew it was the trainers.

So I answer just before it stops, just in time, breathlessly saying hello. It’s all my trainers on speaker phone haha! There has been a change in the line up, so bad news guy isn’t my trainer now. Bummer. But everyone was really nice, and one of the women there is one who just joined the email list, so that was cool. So we talked awhile and I’ll post about it tomorrow.

About 5 minutes after I got off the phone with them, Lish came over and we sat and talked until B got home with dinner. She left, we ate, and now I’m typing this and it’s just after 7pm.

So, um, well, not the best way to recover from fatigue, but on the whole, the only thing that seemed tiring was the lesson with Dave, which it was. But the rest was just as exausting, but I’m glad I got it all done and I was really missing Lish.

It’s like as soon as B is home, my body knows its time to wind down, relax, chat with him, and go lay down. So that’s what I’m gonna do. I may or may not edit the post after I listen.

Oh I got screwed up in the countdown and said 12 days yesterday but it was 11 so today is 10 days! The countdown is really on!

Oh yeah, I dreamt last night that I got a black female.

Doggy Countdown – Oops

Yeah. Oops. I’ve been frustrated this week because all my preparations came to a screeching halt with this fatigue. So this morning I was feeling better and the bedroom really needed vacuuming. So I attempted that. But the stupid thing isn’t working well, so it was a waste, and it wore me out. Oops. I did mange to move some stuff around though, to clear the space for the bedroom tie down. I just needed to move my hamper so I can use the dresser leg. It really is the perfect spot. So that’s done.

Then I needed to roll up and secure the duffel bag Georgie lent me to pack in case I need an extra bag on the way home. So I got that done, and that was making my arms ache. Before that, I had looked at my travel computer speakers, re-learning how to fold them up, and looking to see what size batteries it takes. Then I checked out the batteries in my talking alarm clock. I know the dorms have clocks, but I’ve heard horror stories about them. My clock is something that Miss A had, that her son gave me after she died. So I want to take it. Plus, it’s super easy to set.

Then I wanted to check out the text cd that has class lectures on it, to make sure they’re the same ones I already listened to and they are. But I’m really rusty at braille, so trying to read the labels made my brain mush lol!

So I’ve just got guest speakers and the clicker training cd to listen to, and I’m done with those. I like that they send the lectures ahead but, well, most of it doesn’t make much sense haha. I’m sure it will make more sense hands on.

So that’s all I’ll do today as far as any work goes. This is driving me nuts. Sometimes I can get right back to work when a fatigue is letting up and other times it just sets me right back. Tomorrow is planned as a fairly busy day, which I will cancel if I have to.

Ok, back to doing nothing 🙁

Doggy Countdown – Airline and insurance

The fatigue monster is back today, so this will be short. I have all these posts I want to do, but oh well. Hopefully I’ll have some good brain days to practice more videos.

I called my state insurance today and I’ll be covered in CA, so no need for travel insurance, yay!

Then I called the airline to pick my seats. I was told I had to pick my seat. So I called. It’s US Air, but I don’t think their customer service folks are in this country. The Silicon Sally part sounds all clear with normal volume and then the agent comes on and I can barely hear nor understand her, and she’s really quiet. She said I already had seats. I told her I was told I have to pick seats. She said yes, I can change them. Alrighty then. So we struggle to find my information and finally I can change my seats on the return trip to bulkhead.

Ugh. Just those two phone calls wore me out. That and I paid my cell phone bill. I’m spent. I want my spoons back.

Doggy Countdown – A nurse, a writer, and trash, oh my!

Man today has been busy. I got back a little while ago from Gamma’s, did some chores and got caught up on email and now I’m finally getting the doggy countdown post in for today. There are days where I’m almost afraid I won’t get it posted.

Anyway, this morning while I was in the shower getting ready, I missed the call from the GDB nurse. Everyone on the list said it gets even more real when you start getting the phone calls! I was really shocked to get one on a Sunday. I called her back, but she was on the phone. So I was getting ready and she called back. Sweet! Man, they think of everything! She started going through the information she had and she said, “multiple sclerosis made you blind?” So I had to tell that story. Then she said, “but you’re not on any medication?” I explained that no, I’m not. I used to be on injections that I gave myself every other night. I decided to stop taking them. They didn’t stop me from going blind. I didn’t want to inflict pain on myself anymore, and the morning after, I always felt like I had the flu. So I stopped them. You think I have bad spoon days now? It was nothing compared to when I was on that stuff. I felt like hell all the time. I decided quality of life was more important. If I have another attack, I’ll deal with it. But there’s no guarantee those injections will stop an attack anyway. I could hear in her voice that she thought that wasn’t a good idea. And, if I get any comments scolding me, guess what? They won’t get published. It’s a personal decision, one I often think about. But, they didn’t stop me going blind, so I stopped them. It might not be the right decision, but it’s a decision I made. I’m going to be seeing a new neurologist and I’ll be discussing alternative treatments with her. So the nurse seemed to understand this after I explained it. She went down a possible list of ailments and when I told her that sometimes my knees realy hurt in the rain, she paied extra attention to that, recommended good shoes, which I have, and asked what I take for that. I told her ibuprofin. She asked if I have chronic headaches and I told her I get migraines if I’m low on caffeine. I said it wrong. What I meant was, caffeine helps the migraines when I get them. She asked if I was on medication for those. I told her no because I really only get one severe one a year, if that, and I pop ibuprofin the second I feel a twinge. I was starting to fear she’d tell me I couldn’t come because I’m not on any meds lol.

She then asked about balance and fatigue issues and I explained that it happens, but I’ve really noticed a difference since exercising regularly and eating better. She asked if I was active and I said yes. So, I guess I passed lol. It was rather intimidating. She also recommended travel insurance, since medicaid usually isn’t transferable state to state, so I’m gonna get that.

Beyond that, she really didn’t tell me much I didn’t already know. Oh, she sounded like I drink too much caffeine. Wow. Carol, if you’re reading this, I totally related to how you felt at the dentist.

I was really impressed when she said, “I see you’re in recovery. Will you need to get to meetings while you’re here?” I told her I was going to look up contacts in the area, and she said they already have them. They already have them. They already have numbers of people in the fellowship who have come to take students to meetings. Wow. That. Is. Cool.

So B and I left as soon as I was off the phone to go to Gamma’s. We had a nice visit. It’s my last Sunday before I leave, because we’re going over on Saturday for my Uncle’s birthday. And the Sunday before I leave, I’ll be packing. So the next time I’m at Gamma’s on a Sunday, I’ll have Insert! Wow!

Ok, so the writer part of my title. You’re probably thinking I mean an author type writer. Nope. I totally have not blogged about this little piece of news, ops. And because of that, I’ve kept it from Carin. I almost slipped on the list but caught myself.

So Friday when I got home from being out with Dave, there’s a knock at my door.

Hello?

Hi, it’s the post lady!

Hi!

I open the door.

You have a package.

I’m not expecting one, is it addressed to me?

Yeah, it’s a big one from…

She tells me who it’s from.

Oh! It’s my braille writer!!

So yay! I got the Perkins braille writer that Carin found for me on one of her lists. These things are way expensive and I got a steal on it. The guy went blind 6 years ago, learned braille, and then lost sensation in his fingers. So he sold me the brailler. Carin had found out that I was looking into buying one and she put her feelers out and got a hit at once. So, now I’ve gotta play with it. I’ve only used one sparingly. I want to wait until I have a good chunk of time to sit with it to play. Wooo hooo! I have such amazing friends. L literally gave me the cardigan off her back last week to wear with my dress for grad. Wow. And Carin has never met me and she immediately ran to find me a brailler. Sweet.

And now trash. You know, something about doing the laundry yesterday had me wanting to go everywhere today haha! So when we got home I had some groceries and needed to clean out the fridge. I filled the trash can and told B I was walking it down. He always takes care of the trash, so I just always let him. But I wanted to do it. So I was walking to the trash when a neighbor said quietly, “I don’t want to startle you…” I stopped and said hi and she went on to explain that her little shihtzu rescue dog is amazed by me. Usually the dog runs when anyone is outside, but when she sees me, she stands at the door and watches. So I knelt down and put my hand out palm down, and felt the slightest brushing of whiskers. She was sniffing me timidly. I guess she never gets close to anyone but her person. Awwww. I told the lady about Insert and she said that’s so wonderful. We stood chatting for a bit and then I said I’d better get back or my boyfriend would worry. So I dumped the trash and went back to the apt.

Then B made out our checks for the electric bill and I was like, I want to walk that down. Haha! So I took it down to outgoing mail. Part of why I wanted to do that was to scope out a potential relieving area. Plus, it was so lovely out! There was a light, playful breeze tossing my hair about my face a bit. My skin could feel the slightest bit of chill in the air. It was warmer today then it has been in quite awhile, and it just felt so good to be outside.

So, that was my day! Now it’s time to edit and publish and return a call I couldn’t answer this morning. Yay for busy days!

15 days!!!
