Book fifty-seven in 2012 – “The Reversal” (Mickey Haller #3, Harry Bosch #16) – Michael Connelly

If you forced me to name a Michael Connelly book I didn’t like very much or else I’d stay as sick as I’ve been permanently, it wouldn’t bother me to name this one. I’m noticing a trend here: books combining Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch have so far been just kinda eh. Although I thought the ending of “The Brass Verdict” was great, so that one was pretty good. “The Reversal” was frankly kind of boring. This really shocks me since it’s Michael Connelly! I think for me, maybe I want just a cop drama or just a courtroom drama, I’m not sure. I think maybe part of it was coming off of “Nine Dragons” after we went so far into Harry’s personal life, this book was just void of that aspect and left me wanting. It was good, the way pizza is good even when it’s not great.

I had planned on spacing out the remaining Bosch books and I tried to read a book after “Nine Dragons” but it was awful, so awful in fact that I couldn’t finish it, a first since I began listening to audio books. It was “Nano” by Robin Cook. I was so disappointed since I remember reading “Coma” when I was a lot younger and loving it. I think the narrator played a part in my not liking “Nano” but adults acting like immature children and doctors discussing private matters in a break room in front of a guy “absorbed in his work so he won’t here” just took away from the story too much and I couldn’t finish it. Maybe I’ll look it up on Wikipedia to see if I can find out what was ailing the poor experiment subjects.

I started another Connelly book last night, not a Bosch book, one I read last year back before I had Audible. It had been on CD and I gave it away, so I used a credit to get the Audible version. I have a lot of other books I could start, but I think Connelly is just comforting to me right now. the holidays are hard. Being sick so much this year has not helped. Is it 2013 yet?
